A French-Danish artist, Johannes Hopfner crafts an inhabited alternative folk rock, fueled by a powerful stage presence. As a singer-songwriter and one-man band (guitar, harmonica, sometimes stomp box), he creates a free-spirited indie folk universe, oscillating between acoustic purity and visceral intensity. Through a quest for truth he defines as « live & raw. One take, no fake », Johannes captures the raw energy of the moment, without artifice.

Since Soft Night (2004), his self‑produced debut album released on Jamendo and praised online, Johannes has carved out a singular artistic journey. Recorded at Penny Lane Studio, produced by Jacques Le Honsec and mastered by Laurent Gatignol (Studio Potard), One Song, One Take (2009) was captured entirely in a single take. Guitarist Patrick Manougian appears on three tracks, adding an additional musical color. The album reflects a raw connection to nature and spirituality. The track Shaman Dance, featured on the compilation Le Bus Palladium by Cyril Bodin (Universal), crystallizes this earthy grounding.

Critically acclaimed (Gala, Crossroads) and winner of the MMFF FNAC Indétendances competition, his song Ashes Turn to Gold was selected for the compilation FNAC Indétendances #38, marking a key moment in his trajectory.

Johannes has shared the stage with artists such as Yaël Naïm, Tony Joe White, Moriarty, Tom Freund, Elliott Murphy, Lead Foot Rivet, R. Wan (Java), Balimurphy, and Camille Bazbaz, multiplying encounters and live experiences while preserving a strong and singular artistic identity.

In 2014, he signed with Sophiane Productions and recorded Twist in the Shadow, produced by Denis Clavaizolle (Alain Bashung, Daniel Darc, Jean‑Louis Murat, Cocoon…) and distributed by InOuïe Distribution. This album marked an important step in his journey, opening his repertoire to richer arrangements and new sonic textures, without breaking from the spontaneity and energy that run through his work.

In the following years, Johannes embraced a more intimate approach, alternating selected concerts with live streaming sessions. He took time to explore, compose, and refine his musical palette. In 2019, he recorded new material at Penny Lane Studio, initiating a deeper artistic process. This work culminated in 2024 with Whispers of the Woodlands, a folk EP with atmospheric textures and subtle electronic touches, produced by Jet Lag Records and born from his long‑term collaboration with Jacques Le Honsec.

Continuing this collaboration, Johannes released Jack & Jo in 2025, a 7‑track EP in which his folk compositions are reinterpreted within a fully assumed electronic universe. An experimental parenthesis on the margins of his musical trajectory.
